What to do When you Want to Give Up
Running a business is hard and for some entrepreneurs the difficulties that arise from trying to get more clients to paying our bills on time can be overwhelming. There may be times you just want to give up and go get a day job. If you find yourself wanting to give up in your business read on.
First, remind yourself why you wanted to go into business for yourself in the first place. Remember that moment you decided you wanted to be your own boss and run your own life on your terms. Think about all the reasons you want to succeed, what your definition of success is and what you want to do with that success. Let that passion be your guide.
Second, re-evaluate your business. Perhaps what is really going on here is that you need help. Are there tasks you can outsource? Could you bring on an assistant? What will it take to make running your business easier? Get really clear on what would make things a little less hard and then work smarter to make them happen.
Third, take a break. If the day to day has gotten you so close to the edge you’re ready to jump take a step back and take a break. Go get a massage, go for a run, have a glass of wine, take in a movie- just take a little bit of time to completely escape the business and then come back with a fresh attitude.
Fourth, go ahead and give up. I’ll bet you weren’t expecting that were you? If steps one through three didn’t help you then giving up might be your only option at this point and that’s okay. Not everyone can handle being an entrepreneur. That doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you, it just means entrepreneurship is not right for you, at least not right now. After working in a regular day job again for a while you may come up with another business idea and start the path to entrepreneurship all over again!
