How Do I Find my Niche Market?
With a business as diverse as travel, it’s important to have a specialty that you can set yourself apart as an expert in. Having a niche allows you to have a target audience that you can center marketing campaigns around. So, how do you find your niche?
First, consider all the types of travel out there. Just a few of the types include wedding and honeymoons, luxury, cruises, group travel, adventure and extreme travel, business and corporate travel, incentive trips and more. Out of these pick at least two that you really consider yourself passionate about. For example, if you hate cruises then that should not be your niche.
Why pick two? It’s no secret that the age of the travel agent is alive and well and there is a chance that there is another agent in your area. If she specializes in luxury travel and you are passionate about luxury travel as well as honeymoons then you should go for honeymoons so that you set yourself apart from her.
Here’s the good news if you are really concerned about picking one niche- you can still sell all types of travel. You are just picking one so that you can get your name out there as an expert in that field.
You picked your niche, now what? Share the fact that it’s your niche. Blog about it, write articles about it, learn all you can about it and then sell as much of it as you possibly can.
Can you change your niche? Sure, you can, but should you? The only real reason to consider changing your niche would be if you start to get a sour taste in your mouth for the one you chose and can no longer enjoy any aspect of it. Remember, the goal in picking a target audience is to set yourself up as an expert so you shouldn’t be changing your specialty every few years…It is because of this that you should spend as much time as possible deciding on the niche you like the most and then own that niche- own it for all it’s worth!
