Travel Trends – How do I Know What They Are?
When you decide to become a travel agent you are deciding to become an expert in all things travel. One thing that your clients will expect of you is to know what the travel trends are so they know the “hot spots” to go, the places to avoid and the destinations that will meet their travel needs. How do you know what the travel trends are though?
You should be researching the trends all the time. When hotels are closing for remodeling, hosting grand re-openings and/or offering amazing deals that you can pass on to your clients you should have it on your radar. When airlines are on strike, declaring bankruptcy or merging with other airlines, it shouldn’t come as a shock to you because you should be keeping notes about these stories. If a particular cruise line has had a string of flu outbreaks or some other passenger issue you need to know about that too.
Another thing you should be keeping notes on is where people are frequently booking. Have you suddenly had a spurt in traffic to the Caribbean? Are a bunch of celebrities flocking to Hawaii lately? Perhaps many of the travel websites you read regularly are focusing on one or two places because of festivals or events in those areas. Again, you need to know these things!
In other words, travel news should be in your Google Alerts, your RSS feeds or your email inbox. Keeping an eye on things like these help your clients know you are the expert they need and will keep them coming back.
When in doubt you could always create a travel trend. If there are spots you love to go to and think your clients would enjoy – tell them about it! Remember, you are the expert, so act like one!
