How Many Work Days are in a Year?
One of the best things about being an entrepreneur is the ability to set your own hours and take days off when you want to. However, when you are self-employed, especially at the beginning of your career, there are no real days off. You should be open for business 24/7! In fact, this is what sets me apart from many of the people in my industry. Even though I take vacations and don’t go into my office every day my business is always working.
I am sure that some of you are reading this and thinking to yourself, “but Tammy I need a vacation. I can’t work 365 days a year! Everyone needs a break sometime” Okay, that’s fine and I agree, but if you are going to take time off you better make sure that someone is holding down the fort in your absence!
While we’re on the subject of vacations thought, it should be noted that you shouldn’t forget to come back to work. What do I mean by this? I know several travel agents who spend more time traveling than working. It may feel nice to enjoy the money saving perks of being an agent now, but what about when you run out of money? Don’t forget that you are eventually going to have to hustle if you ever want to have any semblance of success.
Think of it this way- you need milk and the first store you go to is closed. What do you do? Wait until that store re-opens or do you drive down the road to 24-hour store that is still opened? Exactly!
It’s even worse with service based businesses because if someone is looking to buy your services and they can’t reach you they can just open a new window online and do a search for someone else in a matter of minutes! Keep this in mind the next time you decide you need a break and think you can afford not having someone there to answer potential customer phone calls for you.
